How this site is written, checked and kept honest

Money writing online is mostly unsourced opinion dressed as fact. This is the standard we hold ourselves to instead, so you can judge what you read here.

1. Education, never advice

Everything here is general education and mentoring. It explains how investing and pensions work and how to assess your own arrangements. It is not regulated financial advice and not a personal recommendation. It cannot account for your individual circumstances, and it is no substitute for advice from an authorised adviser where you need it.

2. Sourced, or not stated

Figures are cited to where they came from. Tax allowances, pension rules, contribution limits and similar facts are confirmed against primary sources, chiefly gov.uk and HMRC, at the time an article is written. If we cannot stand a number up, we leave it out rather than guess.

3. Dated, because rules change

Every article shows when it was published or last reviewed. Pension and tax rules move, sometimes every Budget. A piece that was right last year may be out of date now, so check the date and treat older articles with appropriate caution.

4. Performance described plainly

Where past results are discussed, they are described as historical performance or track record, never as a forecast. Past performance is not a guide to future returns. We do not promise outcomes, and we are sceptical of anyone who does.

5. Named firms, handled fairly

Where an article assesses a named provider, fund or wealth manager, it does so on the public facts: published charges, factsheets and disclosures. The aim is to help you ask better questions of your own arrangements, not to disparage a competitor.

6. Corrections, openly

If we get something wrong and you tell us, we fix it and note that the article was corrected. Tell us at alpesh.patel@tradermind.com.
